Curriculum

Our curriculum aims intend to:

• Provide a broad and balanced education for all pupils that's coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge for skills and future learning and employment
• Enable pupils to develop knowledge, understand concepts and acquire skills, and be able to choose and apply these in relevant situations
• Support pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
• Support pupils' physical development and responsibility for their own health, and enable them to be active
• Promote a positive attitude towards learning
• Ensure equal access to learning for all pupils, with high expectations for every pupil and appropriate levels of challenge and support
• Have a high academic/vocational/technical ambition for all pupils
• Equip pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life

These curriculum aims are underpinned by our Christian values of Love, Hope and Courage which support the spiritual, moral, social, cultural and academic development of all, enabling each and every learner to grow and be the best they can be. We create and foster a genuine love of learning within a stimulating, safe and caring Christian environment where pupils can grow as unique individuals and successfully develop spiritually, emotionally and academically. Our school values effective teamwork, so our curriculum provides plenty of opportunities for collaborative working. Our school values the importance of diversity and respect, so our curriculum promotes cooperation and represents diverse voices.

Welcome to Red Squirrel Class

Mrs McCarty, Miss Cooke and Mr McCarty

Mrs McCarty is our Early Years Lead and Classroom Teacher. Miss Cooke and Mrs Fleming are our Teaching Assistants. On Thursdays Mrs Renouf teaches the class for part of the afternoon, and Mr Allen teaches the class PE on Friday afternoons. We have a large well-equipped classroom that is set up into different areas of learning and offers continuous provision to the children. Within the continuous provision children can choose from the resources available to enhance their learning, plus we also have challenges that are linked to our current learning or areas of interest. We are also very lucky to have two outside areas for the children to access, where a variety of resources and challenges are available for the children to explore with and learn.

Each morning we have Adult-Led Phonics, English and Maths groups and in the afternoon we cover a range of curriculum areas whilst also spending time in continuous provision. It is our intention for all children to gain a love for school and learning, and become confident, independent and resilient learners who are willing to challenge themselves.

By the end of the year we aim that:

• The children show resilience, independence and confidence in their learning. They enjoy learning and challenge themselves.
• Self-regulation is embedded with the children using several strategies, including The Zones of Regulation, to express their feelings.
• The children demonstrate fluency in phonics, reading and maths.
• Children show that they enjoy school and are eager to share their learning environment with visitors.
• The children understand and follow the school rules of Friendship, Perseverance and Honesty and talk about our values with adults and peers.

Welcome to Tennyson Class

Just like Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the children in Tennyson Class show imagination, sensitivity, and perseverance in their learning. By expressing their thoughts clearly, listening to others, and showing resilience when faced with challenges, they grow as thoughtful, creative, and kind individuals—qualities that help them succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Welcome to Marconi Class

Mr Morrison, Mrs Monk and Mrs Hirons

We're delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 6 - the final chapter of their primary school journey here at Arreton St George's. It's a special and exciting time, and we're honoured to be part of it.

Year 6 is a significant year where children build on all they've learned so far, continue to grow in confidence, and prepare for the transition to secondary school. Along the way, they'll also be working towards their SATs - an important milestone, but just one part of a much bigger picture.

This year is about much more than tests.

It's about deepening understanding, developing resilience, building friendships, and creating lasting memories. We encourage every child to stay curious, embrace challenges, and remember that mistakes are part of learning.

As parents and carers, you play a vital role in this journey. Your support, encouragement, and involvement are key, and we truly value the partnership we share with you.

Let’s work together to make this a positive, inspiring, and memorable final year. We look forward to all the learning, laughter, and achievements ahead.
