School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Governors appoint the Head Teacher and are involved in the appointment of other staff. In some schools the site is owned by the governing body. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, health and safety and it is governors who work with the Head Teacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources.

Each individual governor is a member of a governing body, which is established in law as a corporate body. Decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body.

Message from Mr. Oulton

I would like to welcome you to our website and tell you something about our school. We are a one form entry Church of England Primary school situated in the Middle of the Island in the village of Arreton. We are very proud of our school and its success in providing children from all over the Island with a great start in life. Our aim is to give every child the best possible start towards living a fulfilled and happy life.

We are determined to ensure every child is given an opportunity to shine both academically and socially. We teach Christian values with a focus on their spiritual, moral and social development as well as on their academic progress.

With our associated nursery we take children from 6 months to completion of Key Stage 2 at age eleven. We are very keen for parents to become involved in school affairs and focus on supporting parents as well as children. If you have children or grandchildren who are looking for a first class primary education, I hope you will contact our Interim Head of School, Ms L Tatters-Smith, and ask her to tell you more about the St George’s community and what we try to achieve.

With best wishes,

Robin Oulton
